Okay, I'll admit that musicals aren't really my thing. But when you get given a "dinner and theatre" Red Letter Day by a nice person, there's not much to choose from except musicals: Wicked seemed the best option by far.
I'm glad I went though, since despite the "tourist trap" rep and obvious singing and dancing, it's quite a fun evening out.
Today's Joanna Page is the video to Mark Owen's “Makin Out”. All right, you don't have to listen to it – turn the sound down if you want to.
Actually, I was expecting the worse, but it's quite a nice little song, I think. The video's pretty good, although a little creepy in the light of the Torchwood episode From Out of the Rain (they're so similar, I'm wondering if the directors are the same). It's mostly in the style of silent movies of the 10s and 20s – although it could be argued that Mark Owen isn't so much doing Buster Keaton as Johnny Depp doing Buster Keaton/Charlie Chaplin in Benny & Joon.
Nice roller skating, too.
Next week: Joanna Page as Dickensian femme fatale* Dora Spenlow in David Copperfield.
There's a Fat Pig after-show Q&A with Neil LaBute on Tuesday 8th July, with Vanessa Feltz as co-host. You can also get the best available seats for this performance, Thursday matinees, Mondays and Tuesdays for £25 until the 10th July. You can order over the phone or online using the "FACEBOOK" promo code.
Sky One's Empire was a bit poor, wasn't it?
Warship got a lot better and more focused as the series went on, so I'd recommend catching it on re-runs if you can since it's worth sticking with to the end.
