My God, could that look any worse? In the particularly point-missing category is the way Sam is good looking and well muscled and easily beats the Gene figure in a fight.
    Eh...no.

And it's nice that Sam seems to come from some point in the future, if his police station in the modern day is any indication.

I'm almost glad I've seen it now so that I can prepare myself for it properly when it arrives in autumn – just so I can look at it with fresh eyes rather than with my pre-existing Life on Mars expectations and judge it on its own merits.

The sci-fi future and the direction style of the past suggest they're going more in the direction of parody and satire: rather than compare and contrast policing styles, they're comparing and contrasting TV cop shows of the two periods. And if you watch enough rubbish US TV cop shows, you'll notice they're pretty much sci-fi in terms of computing, etc (cf CSI: Miami).

But yes, bit of a shock. And I'm not sure I'll be watching it because my wife took one look at the trailer last night and banned me from watching the show on general grounds of sacrilege.

I don't blame her; I don't even watch Life on Mars yet the fact that they're remaking it makes my head hurt.

(McSpaced is bound to pop up soon. Urgh.)

Don't yous be a worrying, young Miss. It's been poured down the drains, by the looks of it.

Oh, dear God, that's awful. Extra anti-brownie points for not actually playing Life on Mars!

The shot-for-shot parts were especially painful. Did they not notice that John Simm is short and skinny? Did they not think that was important?

I felt the alien nature of being thirty years in the past with the original series. And to make it a fair comparison, even in just the opening credits sequence recap. From this trailer, it just looks like he knocked over to the next town and that's about it. It seems to be all in the dialogue that he's in the past; nothing about their surroundings felt organic to the 1970s.

I like Colm Meaney - anybody who plays an O'Brien is okay by me! - and Lenny Clarke is always fun to watch. I just wish they had a better vehicle for their talents.

You can all say what you like, but you'll watch it!

    Probably. But how long for...?
