Right, there's nothing appearing on this screen which gives me an option to log out and log in again, so if this appears as anonymous, I dunno what to sodding do.

Anyway, to comment: is this going to be the first pure historical since Black Orchid, or are the BBC going to insist on superfluous aliens?

Oh for Christ's sake. Replying to the wrong entry - my fault. Still flaming anonymous - just want to shoot this computer.

Does it say "Thanks for signing in, xxx. Now you can comment. (sign out)" just below "Leave a comment" and just above "Your blog"? Click "sign out" if it does. If it doesn't the Javascript's buggered, which would be a bit of a bug.

On the historical side of things, I suspect there will be aliens. But you never know. There's no hint of them yet.

No, it doesn't. I have a note about my avatar (and none of the avatars appear on my work Mac, but that's our firewall, I suspect), and then a tickybox to remember personal info, then a note about HTML, then the comment box, and that's all.

Ooh. I actually reported this bug during beta testing 4.0. Tossers haven't fixedit. Try clicking on this link.

Well, now I've got options to enter name and email address, but still no option to log out.

At least you're not anonymous any more.

It could well be that you'll have to flush your browser's cache - if you're using Safari (and think you are), it's well known for caching old JavaScript. I find that if you refresh a page three times, that usually does the trick. If not, you'll have to flush it all - you'll find "Empty cache" under the 'Safari' menu item

Done that. Still no log-out option.

You don't need to log out. Cos you're logged out. You just need to log in. Is there no "Sign In" module above "Recent posts" in the sidebar now? I put it there just for you.

If not, we have a definite bug in the blog software (not my implementation of it, honest) and I'll report. At the very least, you can put your name in now and no longer be anonymous Stu.

There's something that says Sign in, but there isn't a dialogue box or anything which actually lets me sign in.

I've built you a lifeboat, Stu, where Sign In used to be. Can't say fairer than that!

the first pure historical since Black Orchid

Ah, yes, the bleak historicism of Black Orchid, in which men are scarred not by war but by lost tribes who hold flowers sacred, and policemen say, "Strike me pink!"

I can't get enough of that pure history.

Hoorah! I am aboard the lifeboad and paddling!

I never said Black Orchid was any good. But it doesn't have any aliens in it, does it?

Anyway, ISTR reading somewhere that the production team had a 'there must be monsters' edict for the first three series, so it'll be interesting to see whether they're confident enough to overturn that and rely on time-travel ethics for the main motor of the story.
