Oh dear: does that mean my friend Joe will be inflicted with Torchwood before he gets to see S3 of NewWho? Poor USA.
As for Serenity, why a "fix"? We all knows polls are fickle but what makes this one a fix? I mean, I love the film (heck, I'm a Whedon fan) but why so down on the concept of it doing so well in the poll? It depends on numbers, whether the question was "best" or "favourite", and the fact that it has been a grower, a word of mouth success (which can often garner rather obsessive devotion). Not that unusual in the sci-fi domain surely...

Actually, can I just add (having read the news clip about Torchwood going to BBC America), that I'm actually far more disturbed by them being inflicted with the shite that is the "long-running youth soap Hollyoaks". God, that will possibly make Torchwood look brilliant by comparison...

As for Serenity, why a "fix"?
Originally, the poll said "best" but it mutated into "favourite" at some point.
I mean "fix" in the sense that a load of Serenity fans clubbed together to make Serenity come out top. Most people (and let's face it, precious few people saw it in the cinema and loved it) haven't heard of it. And better than Star Wars, The Terminator, 2001, et al? Tis a fan-distorted poll at best.

Sorry, are Star Wars fans incapable of doing that sort of thing? Isn't it possible that the readership of an SF-oriented magazine, many of the writers on which regularly demonstrate Whedon loyalism and Lucas-bashing tendencies, may have a natural bias towards Serenity?
That aside, the posters on LJ's torch_wood would love you.

No. They're all impeccably behaved.
It is possible that SFX's readership is so biased towards Whedon and Serenity that this is a perfectly balanced result, although one that wouldn't be replicated if repeated across either the rest of the population or just a "film buff" cross-section. However, that would be deeply disturbing and plunge me into a deep pit of misanthropy if true. Bloody kids.
That aside, the posters on LJ's torch_wood would love you.
I was of course referring to the fact it will be on BBC America, not the more widely available SciFi Channel. Poor America.
At least, that'll be my excuse.

I've never bothered with trying to find out the readership breakdowns, but if the letters page is anything to go by, there are plenty of young adults among them. And it wouldn't be the first time the readers' response to something has been out of step with the wider population (cf. too much importance attached to Farscape in the reader awards etc).

Trouble is, I'd therefore expect the complete set of results to be more skewed. Instead, everything after Serenity is the standard litany of movies beloved by golden oldies. It's just this one movie that stands out as an anomaly. Very weird, unless we assume a campaign to get it there. Anything's possible though.
