BBC apologises for Jimmy Carr joke

Posted on January 5, 2006 | 5 comments |

The BBC has apologised unreservedly for a joke by Jimmy Carr about Gypsies. The question is, why haven't they apologised for hiring him in the first place? Or how about a simple blanket apology: “We're sorry about Jimmy Carr”?

Note to broadcasters: please stop hiring Jimmy Carr.
Subtext of blog entry: Jimmy Carr is rubbish. Stop hiring Jimmy Carr.

YES! Jimmy Carr is a horrific waste of space. I'm sorry, it's not post-modernly ironic, its racist sexist shite...

    Counts against him:

    • The Media Guardian doesn't like him either.

    • He was a bit of bully at school - a friend of a friend was a recipient of his abuse.

    • He's none too good hosting quiz shows without the scriptwriters, apparently: they have to give him a massive list of Carr-esque jokes that anticipate every possible response from all the other guests.

    Basically, he's rubbish.

I hate Jimmy Carr. But I know lots of people who don't mind Jimmy Carr. I have never, however, met anyone who actively likes Jimmy Carr, and I doubt I ever will. It's typical TV lowest common denominator stuff. Hire the presenter who will make the least people switch off. Also, I reckon he's dirt cheap.

Jimmy Carr appeared at the comedy club a few times where I work before he s**kd some guy off to get on tv. He was appaling, one night customers complained and we had to hand out loads of free tickets. Hardly any laughs. He may just possibly manage obvious one liners that anybody could say, but he (like his bedroom antics) can't deliver. Managers at other venues didn't want him to perform at theirs ever again that's how unfortunate we were to have him so often until he cost us over £300 in compensated tickets. I'm so glad there are people out there who know *true* comedy. Trust me, I've seen a fair few!

I am so relieved that there are so many people out there who hate this man!! Why is he even on the TV? I have never heard ANYTHING from that odious man's mouth that hasn't made me mad with rage!!

Maybe someone should start a petition to get him off the TV once and for all
